The diversity of hotels in Zermatt is legendary. Mid-December sees the opening of no fewer than five hotels following major renovation and extension projects and lots of innovations. Not to mention a brand new hotel. Zermatt hotels – it’s heaven on earth.
Alsace-born chef Frédéric Fischer has been cooking at the Hotel Alex for 15 years. The top chef’s cuisine is loved far and wide. And he in turn loves the cuisine of the Valais. And has just published a 300-page book of Valais recipes entitled La haute cuisine du Valais.
It’s been a great start to the winter season. Already long time ago, the connection between the snow sport areas of Zermatt and Cervinia/Valtournenche has been opened. And now, new exciting black ski runs are ready to be tested.

Zermatt is family-friendly. Today the Zermatt-Matterhorn resort was awarded the “Family Destination – Familien willkommen” quality label by the Swiss Tour Federation. Proof, if any were needed, that Zermatt’s hotels, holiday apartments, mountain railways and cableways, ski schools and restaurants offer children and their families unforgettable experiences.
Zermatt is all about pure enjoyment. Not just on the slopes, but also on the plate. And in the Michelin Guide Switzerland 2013 no fewer than two Zermatt restaurants have been awarded a Michelin star: Restaurant Heimberg is a new entry and, for the third time already, Ristorante Capri.
Zermatt has picked up yet another award. Right on cue for the 2012/2013 winter reason the resort of Zermatt has been voted the world’s best for après-ski. The winners were chosen by a UK panel of ski and snowboard experts and a wide audience of industry specialists.
Mid-December sees the opening of a new hotel, the Matterhorn Lodge. Renovations have also been underway at the Hotel Holiday and the Hotel Bahnhof. Not only that, a fresh breeze is blowing up on the Gandegg Hut. And lots more besides.
Zermatt is all about top-level skiing in breathtaking surroundings. The Zermatt Ski Festival held in late November 2012 is a unique opportunity for guests to glide down Zermatt’s pistes in the company of former ace skiers.
Zermatt Unplugged will be launching the winter season. At the Season Opening on 27th and 28th December, the festival of unadulterated sounds will be presenting soul singer Marc Sway as well as the shooting star from Western Switzerland Bastian Baker.
