A fresh dynamism, young entrepreneurs and the unchallenged Number 1 in terms of quality: the Swiss business magazine BILANZ has once again applauded the Zermatt-Matterhorn winter-sport destination.
An honour for Swiss Youth Hostels: they received the Swiss Solar Prize on the 10th October 2011. For Zermatt, this is a further milestone for sustainability. Because the Youth Hostel Zermatt was the first Swiss youth hostel with the Minergie standard.
Calling all skiers: the latest 2011/2012 ski-brand models can be tested in the Zermatt ski region up to the end of November 2011. The offer includes hotel accommodation, skipass and skis as well as tips from ski instructors. So it’s time to hit the pistes!
Snow lovers who appreciate unusual locations with a cool ambiance will be delighted: the Igloo Village on Rotenboden is back from the beginning of December 2011 after a one-year break. There’s also a new attraction: the Hot Igloo. It can’t get more romantic than this!
03.10.2011Zermatt is Switzerland’s gourmet Alpine village par excellence. The Gault Millau gastro guide now lists 18 restaurants (+1) in Zermatt. On 3 October 2011, the establishments were awarded a total of 246 Gault Millau points. This will be able to be read in the 2012 Gault Millau gourmet bible for a whole year.
Zermatt mountain climbers Patrik Aufdenblatten and Michael Lerjen set a new record at the end of September when they climbed the Matterhorn North Face via the Bonatti route in 7 hours and 14 minutes.
Of course the Matterhorn is not in danger. But it has slipped behind in the list of the 28 remaining candidates in the vote for the New7Wonders of Nature. Vote to save the honour of the Matterhorn or “Hore”, to give the mountain its local name!
Hat trick for Zermatt: At the end of September 2011, and for the third time in succession, the ski destination Zermatt Matterhorn was declared to be the best ski area in 2012 in the “Alpine skiing” category by the German “ski bible”, the ADAC SkiGuide. The mix of varied pistes received particular praise.
The sightseeing platform on the Gornergrat affords the most spectacular views in autumn: a breathtaking panorama with 29 peaks over 4000-metres high in a soft autumn light. Tickets for the trip up this attractive excursion mountain are available at reduced rates from 1 October.
The two mountain rescuers Daniel Aufdenblatten and Richard Lehner from Zermatt received the Prix Courage People’s Choice Award on Friday, 9th September 2011.
