International multi-day orienteering event returns to Zermatt

10.01.2014

Following the successful event in 2006, the Swiss Orienteering Week returns to Zermatt in 2014. An extensive trail network and a stunning mountain panorama make Zermatt the perfect host for the event. Swiss O Week will take place from 19 to 26 July 2014. The organisers expect around 3,000 competitors from 25 nations.

The Swiss Orienteering Week is an international multi-day orienteering competition which successfully combines holidays, sport and adventure. Six races will take place during the week. Holiday guests and beginners can compete in their own categories. It is also possible to compete on individual racing days.

In and around Zermatt
The races will take place both in the village and in the mountainside. On the first two days, the Obere Matten Sports and Leisure Arena will be the centre of action. The following competitions will be held on Grünsee, Trockener Steg, Stafelalp, Gornergrat and Sunnegga. A junior cup is also in the planning. Training courses and introductory orienteering courses will be held before the event. The highlight of the week will take place on 19 July 2014 when spectators can cheer on top international competitors during their sprint through Zermatt village.
