Zermatt-Cervinia: Three new black ski runs to test

It’s been a great start to the winter season. Already long time ago, the connection between the snow sport areas of Zermatt and Cervinia/Valtournenche has been opened. And now, new exciting black ski runs are ready to be tested.

Lots of exciting news on the Cervinia side of the Matterhorn ski paradise. No fewer than three brand new black ski runs are opening up. The Pista Nera del Cervino is the gateway to a world of superlatives. With a 65 per cent gradient at its steepest points, it’s one hell of a ride on skis, right beneath the Matterhorn. The difference in altitude is 250 metres over a length of 1.2 km, with the starting point at 2943 metres above sea level. Don’t forget to catch your breath and enjoy the southern flank of the Matterhorn in cool turns.

The second new piste is the Gran Roc (Piste 62); it is 1.2 km long, with a 58 per cent gradient at its steepest point. The third one is Vallone 5 (Piste 5bis) and is just under one kilometre long, with a gradient of up to 55 per cent.

Slopes for leisure skiers too
There’s also plenty on offer for experienced and leisure skiers. Most of the 140 km of pistes now open at the weekend consists of blue or red slopes, so technically from easy to moderately difficult. The Zermatt skiing region is set to expand steadily over the new few days and weeks, up to its maximum scope when it comprises 360 km of pistes.
