New SAC Monte Rosa Hut open

The “mountain hut of the future” has been built. The new Monte Rosa Hut above Zermatt will open after a planning phase of around six years – four semesters of which were as a design study project – and a construction period of two summers. The innovative building with the nickname Bergkristall (mountain crystal) is over 90% energy self-sufficient. It will begin offering normal guest services in March 2010 and continue to serve the ETH Zurich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) as a research project in the fields of energy and building services engineering.
