Zermatt: Gourmet Stronghold of the Alps
22.11.2012
Zermatt is all about pure enjoyment. Not just on the slopes, but also on the plate. And in the Michelin Guide Switzerland 2013 no fewer than two Zermatt restaurants have been awarded a Michelin star: Restaurant Heimberg is a new entry and, for the third time already, Ristorante Capri.
The shooting star in Zermatt’s gourmet heaven is Christian Geisler at Restaurant Heimberg. He and his team have cooked their way to the very top, and their efforts have now been rewarded with their first ever Michelin star in the Michelin Guide 2013. For Resort Director Daniel Luggen, that star is highly significant: “Zermatt is now definitely the gourmet stronghold of the Alps.”
The team headed up by Andrea Migliaccio at Ristorante Capri is well established: indeed, this is the third time the Capri, at the Seiler Hotel Le Petit Cervin, has garnered the coveted Michelin star. But that’s not all. The Michelin Guide has delved deep into the Zermatt resort as a whole. 36 hotels and 14 restaurants are now listed.
Gault Millau: Zermatt is tops
Zermatt had already scored big in the 2013 Gault Millau, Switzerland’s most popular gourmet guide, which was published in early October 2012. 20 restaurants featured in the Gault Millau, accounting for a total of 248 points, not to mention nine hotels listed among the 100 GaultMillau hotels.
Best of Swiss Gastro Awards
The Best of Swiss Gastro Awards were also presented on 19 November 2012. Here again, two Zermatt establishments were able to pick up valuable points with this traditional people’s choice award. Awards were presented in nine categories. In the Outdoor category the mountain restaurant Chez Vrony was awarded second prize, and in the Gourmet category the Restaurant Heimberg was again among the recipients, picking up second place.

Note:
unclassified: Two Zermatt restaurants have not been awarded points but have still been included. This is because the chef's successor must first prove himself (Matthiol) and because Roland Kilian is "only" working as a guest chef (Dolce Vita). However, he has cooked his way to 16 points in his former Rebstock Restaurant in Tschugg (Berne).
