Zermatt: yet again a top gourmet destination

Zermatt is Switzerland’s gourmet Alpine village par excellence. The Gault Millau gastro guide now lists 18 restaurants (+1) in Zermatt. On 3 October 2011, the establishments were awarded a total of 246 Gault Millau points. This will be able to be read in the 2012 Gault Millau gourmet bible for a whole year.

Hotel Matthiol made headlines with the presence of film director Marc Forster at its opening in December 2010, but it is now clear that more than names and hotel design are making an impression. The gourmet experience, newly awarded 13 Gault Millau points, is also highly regarded.

“With its 18 restaurants listed in the Gault Millau guide, Zermatt is at a supreme level of gastronomy,” says Heinz Rufibach, president of the Cercle de Chefs de Cuisine Zermatt, adding, “The wonderful thing about Zermatt is that everyone makes the maximum effort and so synergies develop.”

Changes compared to the 2011 Gault Millau guide: the Mountain Restaurant Findelhof in Findeln in the hills above Zermatt has gained 1 point (now 14 points). The Grand Hotel Zermatterhof has lost 1 point and now holds 13 points. The 2011 Gault Millau listed 17 restaurants with a total of 233 Gault Millau points.

Zermatt has 126 hotels, 100 restaurants in the village and more than 50 mountain restaurants in the hills above. With 16 points, the ristorante Capri in the hotel Mont Cervin Palace has the highest classification in the village. The guide Gault Millau writes about it: "The ones who look for the best Italian in Switzerland can find it at the bottom of the Matterhorn."
