Zermatt: The destination for palate pleasures has a new delicatessen business
Valaisian jerky, home-made sausage, Zermatt cheese and fresh fish – all now on offer in a new store in Zermatt. At “Matterhorn Fleisch”, the small shop in Hofmattstrasse (Hofmatt Street) at the sports ground, Obere Matten.
Guests passing the time in a holiday apartment and even the local folks are happy with the new and additional shop. “We offer meat and cheese in open sale“, says Michel Schaller of “Matterhorn Fleisch AG”. The shop on the left hand side of Migros is small but has all important meat, cheese and regional products that will enthuse even the food bon vivant. “Our Valaisian jerky, home-made sausage, the country ham and smoked bacon are all from our own production” Michel Schaller continues. Counseling is important escpecially in the open sales of meats. Some gourmets do not always have the cooking time or manner of preparation of a good piece of meat or fish handy.
Zermatt cheese from Horu Cheese dairy
For a mountain destination where palate enjoyment is part of the important offers as in Zermatt, local cheese specialties are of central significance. Michel Schaller guaranties this through the supply of local specialties by the Horu-Käserei Cheese dairy: Creamy and hard cheese of different assortments come from Mirjam Gobba. The assortment is complemented by customary Swiss and foreign cheese specialties. On top of this is the fresh fish that is offered every Thursdays and Fridays: “Whole fishes can also be ordered in advance. We are able to supply all sorts of fish and seafood“, explains Michel Schaller, adding: “Freshwater fishes too.“ The offer is complemented by further Valaisian specialties, amongst which are choice wines, jams and liquors. There are also the Valaisian platter, table mixed grill, Fondue Chinoise and Fondue Bourgignonne.
