The Hörnlihütte will close its doors on 16 September 2013. Due to conversion work, the mountain hut will stay closed until June 2015. A vista of the anniversary year 2015.

Zermatt’s local beach stretches along Leisee lake near Sunnegga at an altitude of 2'232 metres. Its water temperature is relatively mild since Leisee is quite shallow for a mountain lake.

Zermatt’s summer pastures would simply not be the same without black-nosed sheep around. Every year at the beginning of September, the finest black-nosed sheep is chosen at the Shepherd Festival in Schweigmatten/Furi above Zermatt. This is the first time the event is to be accompanied by musical entertainment. Date: 7 / 8 September 2013

Am Samstag, 24. August, kommen über 700 Läuferinnen und Läufer nach Zermatt, um an den ersten Matterhorn Ultraks Trail teilzunehmen. Sie bewältigen Strecken von 16, 30 und 46 Kilometern Länge. Für Zuschauer bietet sich die Möglichkeit, die Sportler am Start sowie auf den Strecken in den Bergen anzufeuern.

Zermatt’s hotels are among the best in Switzerland. The top hotels in the Matterhorn village have been awarded high ratings by Switzerland’s leading business magazine Bilanz. The outperformer among the hotels is Zermatt’s Hotel Coeur des Alpes which has been awarded first place in the unique hotel category for the fourth year running.

MeteoSchweiz, the Swiss Meteorological Office, has now confirmed that the area around Zermatt, Täsch and Randa is the sunniest corner in Switzerland. With few clouds making it over the 38 4,000-metre peaks surrounding Zermatt, the area enjoys a dry and sunny climate.

Downhill bikers are in for a new treat. The Suneggbahn now provides stop watches which show bikers how fast they come down the track. The watches can be used free of charge.
