Zermatt’s mountain restaurants are in a class of their own and enjoy world renown. “Findlerhof” and “Chez Vrony” are among the excellent mountain restaurants, and their culinary specialities will be presented to passengers aboard Swiss flights in winter 2013/2014.
This winter, Zermatt and the Matterhorn will decorate Swiss Postal Service stamps. The two-franc stamp featuring two “Gädini” in a snowy landscape set against the Matterhorn will be valid as of 14 November 2013.
Insiders have known for a long term that Zermatt is Switzerland‘s big cyclists’ paradise. Now the “Perskindol Swiss Epic”, the biggest bike race, is coming to the canton of Valais for the first time and also to Zermatt. Registration for participants starts on 13th October 2013, but be warned, the number of participants is limited.
According to the 2014 edition of the GaultMillau restaurant guide, Zermatt excels in the culinary department. This year 21 restaurants have made it into the guide – one more than in 2013. All in all, Zermatt’s village and mountain restaurants were awarded an impressive 293 points.

It’s finally here. The hotel rating guide by Karl Wild has now been published. Once again, Zermatt’s hotel landscape is top of the list. Eleven out of the 125 rated hotels in Switzerland are located in Zermatt - a wonderful achievement. On top of that, Zermatt is also home to the best concierge in the whole of Switzerland.
With the Valais hunting season opening in mid-September, local game specialities will soon be back on the menu. There is nothing like a good wander in the green heights around Zermatt, followed by a visit to one of the restaurants in the village or neighbouring mountainside where splendid game dishes are served.
Zermatt Bergbahnen AG’s environmental efforts are bearing fruit: The company has received the 2013 Revegetation Award for its renaturation scheme, which mitigates the environmental impact of piste construction. Not only is Zermatt car-free, even its piste construction is carried out in harmony with nature.
