Bike-Tour Zermatt - SchwarzseeMountainbiking

This ride demands stamina in order to conquer climbs of 1,423 vertical metres. The view of the legendary north face of the Matterhorn provides ample reward.

The route initially leads along roads, climbing steadily first to Furi and then to the dam near Zmutt. Soon everything changes: the road turns into a gravel track, and the technical challenges begin. And it’s steep, very steep. You feel you’re scaling the north face of the Matterhorn, which rises ahead of you, massive and black. In places you might even have to get off your bike for a while and push. However, the wonderful view from Schwarzsee, at the top of the trail, makes all the effort worthwhile.

  • Descent via Furgg technically challenging
  • Descent: different variants
  • From Schwarzsee, view of the Matter valley and to the Matterhorn with the Hörnligrat ridge
Zermatt (Kirchplatz – in front of the church) - Furi - Stafel - Schwarzsee - Furgg - Zermatt (Kirchplatz)

Variant 1 Descent for technically skilled riders: a wide trail leads to Furgg where it turns into a single-track trail offering technical challenges

Variant 2 Gentler descent: a wide, leisurely trail leads from Schwarzsee via Stafel and Furi to Zermatt

Variant 3 Furi - Zermatt descent: after the Restaurant Alm (Furi), turn left onto a track that rejoins the lane above Moos

Variant 4 Furi – Zermatt descent: at the big corner above Moos, a small single-track trail leads bikers through the forest to the bridge in Winkelmatten
