The Gornergrat Zermatt Marathon is one of the finest running events in the Alps. Start in St. Niklaus, finish in Zermatt – with the option of racing all the way to the top of the Gornergrat.

Description

For the marathon, ultra marathon, marathon relay and half marathon alike, the number of places is always limited. It’s therefore advisable to register early. The half marathon from Zermatt up the Riffelberg is also highly popular.

Marathon:  Eie (St. Niklaus) - Mattsand - Herbriggen - Randa - Täsch - Zermatt - Ried - Tufteren - Sunnegga - Grünsee - Riffelalp - Riffelberg (total of 42.195 km and 500 vertical metres)

Ultra marathon: marathon course to Riffelberg, plus Riffelberg - Gornergrat (additional 3.4 km and 514 vertical metres)

Half marathon: Zermatt - Riffelberg (total 21 km, 1,944 m ascent and 444 m descent)

Marathon relay: marathon course run in teams of two. 1st runner St. Niklaus - Zermatt, 2nd runner Zermatt - Riffelberg

We recommend:

  • Suitable footwear
  • Clothing suitable for the weather (always carry a waterproof)
  • Food and water, if desired (there are also refreshment stations along the route)
