Trains run directly to car-free Zermatt. A trip to Zermatt by automobile ends 5 km away in Täsch. Then it continues by shuttle train or by taxi to the resort at the foot of the Matterhorn.

Car-free Zermatt can be reached by train, taxi or helicopter. Drivers park their private automobiles in a convenient parking garage in Täsch. Air travellers take the train directly from the airport and reach Zermatt in 3½ hours from Zurich-Kloten and in 4 hours from Geneva-Cointrin. Alternative: taxis, helicopter (Air Zermatt), Glacier Express.

You can reach the car-free village of Zermatt by train, taxi or helicopter. There are direct trains to car-free Zermatt; the village is 3.5 hours from Zurich airport and 4 hours from Geneva airport. Travel on the Glacier Express is also possible.  

Trains run every half hour to Zermatt, and rail travel from Swiss airports and the border is easy and comfortable.

The road from Täsch to Zermatt is closed to the general public; Täsch represents the end of the line for car drivers. The Matterhorn Terminal in Täsch provides 2,100 covered parking spaces. In addition, there are over 1,000 parking spaces at private providers such as taxi companies or hotels. You have to change to a train in Täsch or switch to a taxi, which has a permit to use the road from Täsch to Zermatt. If you travel to Zermatt without an access permit, you can expect heavy fines. A well-established taxi service operated by various private companies serves guests who wish to travel to Zermatt by taxi.

Zermatt is car free. Private vehicles are only allowed to travel as far as Täsch. From Täsch, you can travel on to Zermatt by train, taxi or limousine. If you travel to Zermatt without an access permit, you can expect heavy fines. 

The same rules apply to electric and conventional vehicles. Travel to Zermatt by car is not permitted.

Lots of attractions in Zermatt are within walking distance. If you don’t want to walk, there are also options for electric taxi, horse-drawn carriage or e-bus. Many people in the village also travel by bicycle.

A car is available in Zermatt for mobility customers. The mobility vehicle is permitted to travel on the road between Zermatt and Täsch. Location: Parking Urania, Zermatt (Spiss district). Some businesses in Täsch and Zermatt also offer a car rental service. Cars are also available on request, with a driving permit to drive on the Täsch-Zermatt road.
