Zermatt: Swiss National Day with street festival
Celebrating the Swiss National Day in Zermatt is a very special experience. Festive tables and benches in the centre of the Matterhorn village attract locals and visitors alike.
All day long, Swiss folklore music will be played in unusual locations throughout the village. Alphorns will also feature prominently.
Long benches and tables will be set up in Bahnhofstrasse in the afternoon. Visitors mingle with locals to enjoy delicacies served at different points along the street.
At 6 p.m., the Director of Tourism Zermatt will greet visitors and locals in 20 different languages and Zermatt Council Leader Christoph Bürgin will hold a short speech on the the occasion of the 723th anniversary of Switzerland.
The fireworks are the big highlight of the celebrations: at 10 p.m., Bengal fire will emmerse the cliffs at Triftweg in eerie colours and the subsequent firework display will light up the sky above Zermatt. A feast for the eyes, palate and ears!
