Randa: The Longest Suspension Bridge in the World will be inaugurated

30/06/2017

The Europaweg between Grächen and Zermatt can be hiked again without a detour this summer. The construction work on a new suspension bridge above Randa will be inaugurated on Saturday, 29th July 2017.

The construction work for the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the world is in good progress. This means that the Europaweg between Grächen and Zermatt can once again be traversed along the high path by the end of July 2017. This is one of the most beautiful panorama hiking paths in Switzerland. The suspension bridge was closed in 2010 because of the instable terrain. Since then, hikers had to make a detour to the valley and then back up along the trail above Randa. This was a descent and then a climb of 500 m for each section. This will be only a memory in August 2017. The suspension bridge will be reconstructed at the present Europaweg about 200 m below the old one. The bridge crosses the Grabengufer, an area at the foot of the highest mountain in Switzerland, the Dom (4,545 m).
