News about Zermatt’s hotels and restaurants
Zermatt is famous for its excellent hotel and restaurant landscape. For the 2014 summer season, many establishments have invested in well-designed infrastructures and optimised service.
Hotel Ambiance has refurbished all of its guest rooms as well as the reception. The CHF 2 million investment has paid off: all 24 rooms in modern chalet style are decorated with light wood, reflecting the simple but ingenious design of Zermatt’s Alpine surroundings. Managed by Hannelore und André Köslich, Hotel Ambiance remains in the 3-star supérieur category. The hotel will be reopened on 28 June 2014.
The Grand Hotel Zermatterhof will complete a further stage of its renovation project in summer 2014. Investment volume: CHF 3 million. Again, a partl of the rooms have been redesigned. In addition, the restaurant Fine Dining Prato Borni has been refurbished and will delight its guests with a new menu focussing on specialities from the region. With Valais products, interpreted in a way which has not been seen yet in Zermatt.
Josefin und Francis Perren‘s Hotel Bristol has received a new lobby and bar featuring light mature timber wood that makes for a homely, modern atmosphere. As of summer 2014, a new open fire place will liven up the bar. Much attention was paid to the lighting concept: the interior’s Alpine chic, which is typical for the Zermatt region, is immersed in unobtrusive bright light. Investment volume: CHF 100,000.
The Mirabeau Hotel & Residence has also redesigned its lobby and reception. The styling is modern, involving glass, metal, dark stone flags and black wood. In combination with the new LED lighting concept, Hotel Mirabeau, which is managed by Rose and Sepp Julen, is resplendent in a modern Alpine style. Reopening: 6 June.
On 21 July 2014, the new Luxus-Chalet “La Vue” will open its doors. Consisting of six first-class holiday apartments with hotel service, the chalet can be booked year-round. The building is located on a crag, forty metres above the village. With sizes varying between 90 and 300 square metres, the units feature bleached larch wood, dark stone and open vitrification. The complex also includes a spa. Managed by the Julen family who is also in charge of the four-star “Europe Hotel & Spa”, La Vue is following the current “serviced apartment” trend – complete with concierge, breakfast service and private cooking.
New developments have also taken place at the Vernissage Bar, Club and Cinema. As of June 2014, Daniel Droz will be in charge of the lower floor of Hotel Backstage. Together with his crew, he will provide excellent service at the Vernissage Lounge Bar. On top of this, he is responsible for the cinema programme and the Club Events. Opening weekend: Thurestay, 19 June: bar open from 7 p.m. Friday, 20 June: Cinema Opening with movies at 3, 6 and 9 p.m. Saturday, 21 June: Cocoon Summer Party # one, starting at 11 pm.
