New track at second Matterhorn Ultraks Trail event
On 23 August 2014, the Matterhorn Ultraks Trail will enter its second round. Registration for the races started on Sunday, 8 December 2013. Participants and spectators will be happy to hear that a new track has been added to the competition.
Of course last year‘s popular “16K”, “30K” and “46K” courses will still form the backbone of the second Ultraks event, with the “46K” course once again declared an internationally recognised “Skyrunner® World Series” track in 2014.
The 2014 event will feature a new “2VK” track that follows the course of “46K” track from Zermatt to Gornergrat. Simon Anthamatten, race director of the Matterhorn Ultraks, explains what’s special about the new course: “The 2VK is all about going up, it is perfect for contestants who don’t like steep descents.” The 14-kilometre trail covers an elevation gain of around 1,927 m. Simon Anthamatten reveals that “from up there, the contestants get a wonderful view of the Breithorn, the Monte Rosa Massif and the Gorner Glacier.”
Registration and information

Goodies on the second birthday
There will be more new features at the 2014 event aside from the “2VK”. Feed-back on the 2013 competition showed that there is a large demand for Finisher Shirts. Contestants reaching the finishing line in 2014 can look forward to a free 'Matterhorn Ultraks Finisher' T-shirt. Another new feature is automatic participation in the monthly draw at the registration stage. The prizes are goodies from Scott and Peak Performance as well as trips to Zermatt. On the occasion of its second birthday, Matterhorn Ultraks will also refund the registration fee to the lucky 2nd, 22nd, 222nd, 502nd, 602nd, 702nd [...] contestant.
